Two related ways to start fast. Templates are a browse-first gallery of ready-made governance models you preview and turn into a new model in one click. A Playground is a throwaway sandbox, opened from a shared link, where anyone (even without an account) can edit a copy of a model in the real UI. Nothing in a Playground is ever saved as a real taxonomy, record, or submission.

Templates

A template is a complete, ready-made governance model: a taxonomy plus fields and picklists that express a campaign-naming or UTM scheme. You browse the gallery, preview a template live, and import it as a brand-new model in your account. After import it is a normal, fully editable model. The gallery lives on the Create new governance model page, which offers three starting points:
  • Start from scratch: build your taxonomy and fields by hand.
  • Import from JSON: bring in a model from a JSON file.
  • Or start from a template: the template gallery, described below.
On a brand-new account, the welcome screen also shows six recommended templates, with See all templates to open the full gallery.

Browse and filter

The gallery lists 18 templates, from a flat starter to multi-business-unit and agency setups. Three filters narrow the list:
  • Business filters by business model: All, B2B, Ecommerce, Media, Agency, or Enterprise. Universal templates stay visible whichever one you pick.
  • Structure filters by how strict the scheme is: Simple, Standardizing, or Governed.
  • Tags are toggle chips (for example starter, creative, events, multi-client, naming). When you turn on several, a template must carry all of them to show.
Cards are sorted so recommended Core templates appear first, then by structure and business model. Simple UTM Starter leads. If a filter combination matches nothing, the gallery shows No templates match the selected filters.

Preview a template

Select any card to open a full preview with a back link, the template’s badges and description, and a live render of the model. Click Who it’s for & samples to expand who the template suits, who it does not, and example campaign values. Those sample values are illustrative only. They are not created when you import.

Open the template’s preview and confirm it matches your use case.

Click Create Governance Model

This imports the template as a new, independent governance model in your account, then takes you to the new model’s taxonomies. While your account has nothing published yet, it opens the setup review instead, where you can publish and start building in one step. Changes to the model never affect the template or any other model imported from it.If your account already has a governance model with the template’s name (for example, because you used this template before), a Choose a different name dialog opens with the name filled in. Change it and click Create Governance Model.

Customize and publish

Rename fields, add taxonomies, adjust picklists, and tailor everything to your needs. Then publish your first revision.
Creating a model from a template requires an account owner or admin. For other members, the Create Governance Model button does not appear.

Playground

A Playground is a disposable copy of a governance model, opened in the real Terminus Hub UI. You get the model-editing surface (fields, taxonomies, picklists, the model name, workspaces, and the visualizer), but every edit lives only in your browser tab. Nothing is written back, so reloading the tab discards your changes. Think of it as the hands-on counterpart to a read-only shared link.

Open a Playground

On a shared link or embed, click Edit in Playground. Terminus Hub makes a copy of the shared model and opens it in a new tab. You don’t need an account, which makes it a no-commitment way to try a model before signing up. The button appears only when the link’s owner has left the Edit in Playground option on.

What you can and cannot do

  • You can add, rename, and delete fields, taxonomies, and picklists, rename the model, and edit workspaces, all in the real UI.
  • Every change is temporary. It exists only in the current browser tab and is gone when you reload.
  • The submission flow is intentionally disabled in a Playground. You cannot build or save real campaign URLs there, and workspaces show a “Not available in playground mode” lock.
  • To leave, choose Exit the playground from the user menu.
Playground edits never become part of your account. To build a model you keep, start from a template or import a JSON file on the Create new governance model page. See Governance models.

Gotchas

  • Playground changes are never saved. Edits live only in the current browser tab and are discarded on reload. The shared model you started from is untouched.
  • No submissions in a Playground. The submission builder does not run there, so you cannot generate or save campaign URLs from a Playground.
  • Sample values are not imported. The “who it’s for & samples” values in a template preview are illustrative copy, not data created on import.
  • Importing a template needs an admin. Without it, the Create Governance Model button is hidden.
  • An imported model is fully independent. After import it is a normal, editable model, unlinked from the template.
  • Each copy needs its own name. You can use the same template more than once, but every model in your account needs a unique name, so you are asked for a new one.
