A QR style is a reusable design for the QR codes Terminus Hub generates: dot and corner shapes, colors or gradients, an embedded logo, an optional caption, and an optional “SCAN ME” frame. Account owners and admins manage styles under Settings, then QR Styles. Every QR code in the account renders in a style: either one a QR Code field picks explicitly, or the account’s default.
How styles are applied
When a QR code is rendered or downloaded, Terminus Hub resolves its style in this order:- The style the QR Code field is configured to use, if any.
- Otherwise, the account’s default style.
Design a style
1
Start from a template
In Settings, then QR Styles, click New. Pick one of the five starter templates (Classic, Brand rounded, Gradient pop, Scan me, Print black) or start from the default look. Templates are starting points, not linked presets: after this everything is yours to change.
2
Work through the editor tabs
The editor has four tabs, with a live preview alongside that updates as you edit:
- Colors: dot color, background color, and gradients. The background can also be transparent, which is useful for placing codes on colored print material.
- Shapes: the style of the small module dots and of the three large corner “eyes.”
- Logo: an image embedded in the center of the code (see limits below).
- Frame & Label: a banner around the code (the “SCAN ME” treatment) and a caption under it.
3
Save, and optionally make it the default
Save the style. To make it the account default, use Set as default on the style; the previous default is demoted automatically.
Logo limits
- Upload a PNG, JPEG, or SVG up to 2 MB. The image is embedded into the style itself, so there is no URL to keep alive; you cannot point at a hosted image URL.
- The logo can occupy 10% to 50% of the code’s area.
- Codes stay scannable with a logo because Terminus Hub always generates at the highest error-correction level. That is also why the error-correction setting is not adjustable.
Frame and label
The frame is a colored banner attached to the top or bottom of the code, with text up to 32 characters (classically “SCAN ME”) and its own frame, text, and panel colors. The label is a caption rendered under the code itself; campaign surfaces typically fill it with the short URL so print readers can type the link if they prefer not to scan. The default style rules
- There is always exactly one default. You change the default by setting another style as default, never by unsetting the current one.
- The default cannot be deleted. Set another style as default first.
- A style used by a live QR Code field cannot be deleted. The error names the fields using it; point those fields at another style first.
- Deleting a style never breaks printed codes. A QR image whose style has since been deleted falls back to the account default rather than failing, so links and images already embedded or printed keep rendering.
What your team sees
Wherever a QR Code field appears (the records list, the submission builder), a View QR Code button opens a download dialog with a live preview, four size presets (300, 500, 1000, or 2000 px, with hints for what each suits), and a format choice of PNG, JPEG, SVG, or PDF. The dialog renders in the field’s configured style. If the underlying submission is not yet approved, the dialog warns that the code is not finalized. Do not print or distribute a code before its submission is approved, because the encoded value can still change.Gotchas
- Style edits can take a few minutes to show on already-rendered images. QR images are cached briefly, so an edited style propagates to existing on-screen codes within about five minutes. New renders and downloads use the latest style immediately.
- PDF downloads use a standard font for frame and label text. The QR geometry is identical, but banner and caption text in a PDF renders in Helvetica rather than the app font. Use PNG or SVG when the exact typography matters.
- The PDF preview in the dialog is shown as PNG. Browsers cannot preview a PDF inside the dialog image, so the on-screen preview substitutes a PNG; the downloaded file is the real PDF.
- Public share pages currently render QR codes in a generic default style, not your account style. Downloads from inside the app always use the configured style.
