If your naming convention lives in a spreadsheet, Claude can read it and build the same rules in Terminus Hub: your lists become picklists, your columns become fields, and your formulas and dropdown rules become field settings. Claude works on a draft, and nothing goes live until you review and publish it. This guide uses Acme’s spreadsheet, which builds every campaign link from a goal, a country and region, a launch date, a campaign name, and a medium and source.
Try it with our sample spreadsheet. Download acme-utm-rules.xlsx (Excel) and attach it in step 3. It has a Read me tab with Acme’s naming rules, a Lookups tab with its lists, and Email, Social, and Paid tabs that build each tagged URL with formulas and dropdowns.

Before you start

  • You need the owner or admin role, because building a setup edits a governance model.
  • Connect Claude to Terminus Hub first. See Connect AI apps. Your account must allow app connections.
  • This guide starts from the welcome screen of a new account. If your account already has a setup, you can still ask Claude to change it. See Connect AI apps.

Build your setup

1

Choose Use my own AI

On the welcome screen, click Use my own AI. The page Build your setup with your own AI lists three steps. If Claude is not connected yet, start with Add the Terminus connector. Under Paste this line into a new chat, click Copy line.
2

Ask Claude to set up Terminus

In a new Claude chat, paste the line and send it:
Claude reads the onboarding steps, checks that Terminus is connected, and asks for your UTM or naming convention.
3

Share your spreadsheet

Attach your spreadsheet (or a document that describes your convention) and send it. Claude reads every tab, formula, and dropdown rule, and replies with what it found. For Acme’s spreadsheet, that includes a URL field that accepts only https:// links, a launch date that cannot be in the past, and a campaign name that is lowercased with spaces turned into underscores. Correct anything Claude misread.Claude also asks for a few real tagged URLs from recent campaigns, and checks them against the rules, because live links sometimes use values your lists don’t have. Then it asks about rules that are not in the spreadsheet, such as a length limit on campaign names.
4

Approve each change

Claude builds in batches. It test-runs each batch first, shows you the result, and applies it only after you agree. It also asks about anything it cannot decide for you. Acme’s spreadsheet has an Email, a Social, and a Paid tab with the same columns, so Claude asks whether you want one taxonomy or three. When Claude asks to use the Terminus tool that changes a governance model, review the request and allow it.When the last batch is in, Claude says the draft is ready. It is still a draft: nothing is live.
5

Review and publish

Back in Terminus Hub, click Check for my setup on the welcome page. Once the draft has a taxonomy, the page opens Review your setup, with one card per taxonomy and its fields. Click a dropdown’s value count to see its values. To change anything, click Open in designer, or ask Claude. When it looks right, click Publish and start building. See Review and publish your setup for what that does.
6

Build your first URL

The builder opens on your new taxonomy. Fill in a row the way you would in the spreadsheet. For Acme: type shop.acme.example/deals, click awareness, us, and ca, pick a launch date (past dates are greyed out), type Black Friday 2026, and pick email, then newsletter. The computed values match the spreadsheet: UTM Campaign is awareness-us-ca-2026_11_15-black_friday_2026.Click Create URL. The Submissions list shows Your first URL is live, with the link and a copy button.
